Flatland

Flatland

This is a ficticious concept and design for the novel ‘Flatland’ by Edwin A. Abbot. My idea and concept for the new edition of the book, was to have each section (or chapter) to be placed in a concertina booklet. In the novel, all the characters are shapes and the more sides you had as a shape, the higher up in society you were until you became a circle.

Section 1 of the book is a triangle, Section 2 a square, Section 3 a pentagon and so on and so on, each of the sides going up in count as the book progresses.

All of the booklets are then stored in the box (as seen in the first image on the left).

The brief required the typography to be a big factor in the design, so I designed the ‘Flatland’ title myself and changed the text on each of the section pages to become a different shape in itself. I also used the page numbers as a another detention to the design.
