Pantone have just announced the 2012 Colour Of the Year – Tangerine Tango 17-463. It’s been described as an orange with a lot of depth, a proactive go getter, dramatic, seductive and sophisticated. The title of Colour of the Year has been handed to Tangerine Tango by last year’s Honeysuckle.

National Park Photography

Recently I went on an adventure to a national park in Australia. My photography partner and I had a lot of fun with our new Canon SLR cameras, experimenting with the shutter speeds, apertures and ISO’s. Here are a few of the results from the day…

You may remember in my portfolio page we posted some spreads we designed for a new book we were contributing in… Well, the book is now publish and I have a copy! Yay! Click here to see the portfolio item, or click here to purchase the book.

I used my own photography in each of the pieces.

“What follows is a series of typographic explorations by a group of designers, artists, photographers and typographers from the Northern Rivers area of NSW.

These pieces were inspired by Austrian designer Stefan Sagmeister’s series of “Things I have Learned In My Life So Far”.

Each artist wrote a journal for several weeks and then made visual treatments of the three words or phrases that had the most meaning for them. We hope you enjoy the results.”

Our aim is to shake up the art world. This is a serious art prize, but it’s also a colouring competition so it’s wide open to street artists, fine artists, school kids and anyone who has ever lived and breathed sneakers. Anyone could win it.

Foot Locker Art Prize is the world’s richest colouring in competition. 8 sneaker templates were of offer to chose from, and off went many artists and designers with their creative ideas to come up with the best sneaker design. Here are some of the finalists…

Splendour in the Grass

We are in love the popular Byron music festival, ‘Splendour in the Grasses’s new website design. Designed by Mathematics, this beautiful, clean, scrumptious website is defiantly one to bookmark.

It is made up of one continuous page, with falling candies and sweets in between each secion. The vibrant and exciting colours draws your eye to the site and holds your attention. It just makes you wanna eat it!

Book Review – Structural Packaging

Structural Packaging by Josep M. Garrofe is a packaging template book filled with unique and modern designs. It comes with a DVD of all the template designs in PDF and Illustrator files.

Throughout my studies in graphic design, I found this book extremely useful as a reference and for inspiration. The patterns are easy to construct with very effective results. If you wanted packaging design that was going to stand out from the crowd, then there would be a pattern in here for you.

Sparks will Fly

Over the weekend I had an excellent opportunity to take some photographs of people using sparklers. It was a very crisp, cold night and everyone gathered outside to light some sparklers and have some fun. It was fun playing with the shutter speed and f stop to create so interesting images. We had a great time, and here are some of the results of it (these photos are all UNEDITED!).
